Health, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, Vacation Pay, Sick Pay, Holiday Pay, 401(k) Job Description of an Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) SME Our client is looking for a highly experienced ECLSS Subject Matter Expert (SME) programmatically reporting to the project Program Manager and functionally to the Lead System Engineer, to be the technical design and programmatic ECLSS SME for the project ground and space systems.
The ECLSS SME will leverage their ECLSS expertise in human-rated spacecraft systems to lead the project ECLSS requirements, development, test, and verification program for the project.
The ECLSS SME should be familiar with the ISS ECLSS system, lessons learned, and NASA requirements for closure of the ECLSS system to reduce consumables resupply.
The ECLSS SME will work with all the project subject matter experts and guide numerous subcontracts to develop and manage the ECLSS system design process for the project.
The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive systems engineering experience, preferably with a background in human-rated space systems and leadership skills to guide the project Program ECLSS development and implementation process with the project team of engineers and subcontractors to ensure the project meets its technical requirements on schedule and on a budget to deliver the first-ever free-flying commercial space station.
Roles and Responsibilities For The Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) SME In Houston, TX :
Responsible for the overall ECLSS requirements, development, and verification processes for the project that takes advantage of high loop closure in the water and oxygen generation systems to reduce consumables resupply needs.
The ECLSS SME is responsible for working on a multi-disciplined team of engineers to develop, design, integrate, analyze, and oversee the production, test, and operation of ECLSS Air Revitalization, Pressure Control Systems, Ventilation, and Water and Wastewater Controls solutions for human-rated spacecraft systems.
The ECLSS SME is responsible for key ECLSS System deliverables as part of an Integrated Team.
The ECLSS SME is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to help lead Spacecraft, Mission design and analysis efforts, Mission Operations, and Ground Segment development.
The ECLSS SME works with the NASA ISS ECLSS group to understand the lessons learned, onboard spares ECLSS requirements, and high TRL level ECLSS loop closure requirements and consumables trades.
Works within the System Engineering and Integration (SE&I) processes for the project to identify, prioritize, and mitigate the project cost, schedule, and technical risks within the project system-level requirements and interfaces.
Provides ECLSS expertise and direction to the project subcontractors including leading ECLSS technical reviews.
Write status and technical performance reviews and reports.
Experience interfacing with Command and Data Handling design (C&DH), Electrical System Design, and Software design and development.
Experience in the development and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
Responsible with the LSE and the project PM for identifying, controlling, mitigating, and regularly reporting all ECLSS programmatic and technical issues, risks, and changes in the ECLSS system design and verification.
Documents using the project Program and Control function all identified risks and proposed changes to the ECLSS risk database.
Collaborates with the project PM and LSE to resolve ECLSS technical issues within cost and schedule constraints.
Key Attributes/Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering mechanical, electrical, aerospace), hard sciences (i.
e.
physics, materials science), computer science/engineering, or mathematics from an accredited university.
10-15
years of work experience developing large, complex aerospace, human-rated ECLSS systems.
Significant experience in closed-loop ECLSS design and System Engineering processes and principles.
Experience working with multiple subcontractor teams to integrate complex subsystems into an integrated human-rated commercial space station.
Understanding of United States export control laws and regulations.
Strong oral and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Comfortable representing technical and programmatic information to various stakeholder communities including scientists, academics, engineering staff, executives, and investors--both nationally and outside the United States.
Ability to travel as necessary both domestically and foreign.
Experience in Design to Cost and Cost as an Independent Variable (CAIV).
Ability to obtain a security clearance.
