Minimum Qualifications Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree and two years of full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following:
social services and/or human services case management, gerontology, behavioral counseling, investigations regarding vulnerable persons, psychology, or sociology.
Substitution of education for
Experience:
Additional qualifying graduate course work in a related field such as listed above may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years.

Complete a criminal background history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority; Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority; Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check; Submit to a review of and not be listed on the Indicated Persons Registry of the Department of Children's Services, Department of Health's vulnerable persons' registry, or the state's sex offender registry; Not have an excludable offense as defined by Tenn.

Job Overview This classification performs APS investigative and/or service coordination work of increased difficulty.
An employee in this class conducts investigations regarding allegations of self-neglect, abuse, exploitation and/or neglect of vulnerable adults, evaluates risk, identifies potential services, and provides counseling for APS clients.
This classification performs responsibilities under general supervision at the advanced level.
This class differs from the APS Investigative Specialist sub-series in that incumbents of this classification works specialized cases and mentors those in the APS Investigative Specialist series.
This class differs from the APS Team Coordinator in that an incumbent of the latter supervises employees within this classification.
Work Activities Provides support to APS Intake Counselors by gathering information from reporting sources regarding allegations of self-neglect, abuse, exploitation and/or neglect for any vulnerable adult.
Documents information received and verifies accuracy of existing information in the case management system to assist with the completion of an intake report.
Investigates allegations of self-neglect, abuse, exploitation and/or neglect of vulnerable adults to determine if there is a need for protective services.
This includes specialized cases that are sensitive, high profile, conflicts of interest, or that may need additional staff involvement (i.
e.
, those with multiple victims and/or alleged perpetrators.
) Understands and applies APS policies and procedures and recognizes the criteria required for APS involvement.
Ensures client confidentiality is maintained according to state law and agency policy.
Conducts visits to complete program specific assessments to determine needs, strengths, and/or level of risk for clients.
Requests, evaluates, and uploads documentation such as educational, medical, psychological, criminal, and/or financial records to assess needs and risks of clients.
Interviews clients, family members, neighbors, alleged perpetrators, or other collateral contacts to gather information regarding risk factors and client needs.
Documents all case activities, changes, observations, and other information within required timeframes.
Creates service plan with client to refer and coordinate external services to address the immediate needs of the client, reduce risk of harm, and increase self-sufficiency.
Monitors progress of the client's status and modifies the service plan as needed.
Accepts referrals of vulnerable adults from the federal International Social Services Agency to assist in repatriation of US Citizens and ensure their needs are met upon their arrival in Tennessee.
Participates in legal team meetings in preparation of due process or legal interventions that are guided by the Office of General Counsel (OGC).
May be required to testify during legal proceedings and/or in court.
Discusses concerns of risks and develops solutions for clients through participation on advisory review teams.
May assist the APS Investigative Specialist in preparing cases for presentation.
Coaches, mentors, and provides feedback to APS Investigative Specialists to assist in increasing performance, skills, and knowledge.
Assists APS management by making recommendations for changes, new ideas, and improvements in agency efficiency and quality by participating in surveys, SWOT analysis, or pilot projects.
Conducts awareness presentations to provide an overview of the APS program to educate internal and community partners on the roles and responsibilities of the program and how to make a report to APS.
