Position
Summary:
Independently prepares bid packages, conceptual estimates, analysis of subcontractor bids, etc. Represents Batten & Shaw, Inc. in meetings with owners, architects and engineers, and contractors. Gathers, calculates and compiles data for use in conceptual/bid proposal estimates, preparing routine estimates without supervision. Mentors less experienced members of estimating staff.
Position
Responsibilities:
o Acts as company representative and presents proposals to owners in order to sell Batten & Shaw's services.
o Solicits, interviews and pre-qualifies subcontractors. Manages a database of qualified subcontractors capable of worksite completion. Chooses appropriate subs for projects, eliminates poorly qualified subs and manages process to necessary DBE goals.
o Interfaces with subcontractors and suppliers to evaluate proposals relative to the scope of work.
o Analyzes blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labor estimates.
o Prepares estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors and for planning, organizing and scheduling work.
o Budgets, estimates and prepares contracts for negotiated, select-bid and hard-bid projects.
o Mentors and develops other members of the estimating staff.
o Develops owner and subcontractor contracts.
o Completes subcontractor buyout and turnover process.
o Independently prepares proposals which meet quality standards, sets timelines and fee projections. Accurately scopes out length and difficulty of projects and related tasks.
o Reconciles schematic drawings back to conceptual budget.
o Establishes realistic and achievable construction durations.
o Researches local code and permit requirements.
o Adheres to estimating policies and procedures.
o Prepares value engineering as needed.
Education and
Experience:
o Bachelor's Degree in Construction Sciences, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related field and 5-7
years estimating experience or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
o Experience in commercial and healthcare construction.
o Experience in conceptual estimating.
o Experience in both a negotiated and hard-bid environment.
o Experience with Timberline or equivalent estimating software.
o LEED certification preferred.
o BIM experience preferred.
o Willingness to travel to local and regional jobsites as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
o Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and renovation of building structures.
o Understanding of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
o Strong written and verbal communication skills.
o Strong computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft suite of products.
o Effective in presentations and effectively selling the company.
o Ability to interpret quantitative and non-quantitative requirements from construction documents.
o Ability to build and maintain client and subcontractor relationships.
o Ability to work independently, to be self directed and self motivated.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
